Pope Calls for Economic Equality… GOP to Stay consistant with “Christian” Values? Hardly…

I was listening to this and thought how fitting. I’m sure that everyone screaming to get out or I hope you die or burn in hell has a 90% chance of being GOP. It’s never gonna be a warm and cuddly christian type of world that they keep professing they want… is it?

The “christian” values of the Politicians other christians support is just lip service. They feed in to the GOP elitism and us vs. them mentality because it makes them feel safe and they don’t have to think too hard. Not All, but nearly all the good christians I know are cowards in life.  They walk around passing judgment, clearly miserable faking satisfaction. They hide themselves away and conform to what they are told god wants them to be, and stifling their real self in a veneer that is too tight to truly be comfortable.  They spout off out love thy neighbor, but they are the first to condemn him. Makes me sad.

Cenk telling it like it is.

Today I am ashamed of my fellow Montanans…

This is a huge reason I feel it necessary to hide my opinions. These “Montanans” don’t follow our usual live and let live policy. They rant and rave like angry drunk teenagers who haven’t learned even the tiniest bits of self control.  To react this strongly to people just trying to hold up the Constitution of the USA is ridiculous.

I Love Montana. Sadly I am afraid of her people and quite frankly afraid for my safety when rationale goes out the window and unadulterated ‘faith’ takes over.  This isn’t what love is people.

FFRF shares vicious hate mail as “public comment”
FFRF to Forest Service: Remove Montana Jesus shrine
October 27, 2011
| Share

The Freedom From Religion Foundation has contacted the chief of the US Forest Service asking him to remove a Catholic shrine atop Whitefish Mountain, and overrule an underling’s decision to take public comments on whether the federal government should host the religious display.

FFRF is a 17,000-member national state/church watchdog based in Madison, Wis., with 100 members in Montana.

In a letter to Tom Tidwell, Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor outlined the serious constitutional problems with the longstanding First Amendment violation.

Since the Forest Department claims to be interested in “public comment,” Gaylor also attached pages of hostile emails which FFRF has received over the past few days from shrine supporters, “whose common refrain (besides spite and obscenity) is that only Christian believers have the right to live in the United States or visit Montana.” Such intolerance is the inevitable consequence when the federal government improperly takes sides on matters which must be left to personal conscience. (Click here to read hate mail, or see excerpts at conclusion.)

In late May, FFRF called the Forest Service’s attention to the unconstitutionality of its “leasing” arrangement with the Knights of Columbus. The federal agency has given the group a special use permit to place a Jesus staute on Big Mountain, near Whitefish, Mont., since the 1950s. After Forest Department officials in Montana made note of the constitutional concerns and let the lease expire, a Republican member of Congress from Montana has tried to turn the First Amendment violation into political football.

Immediately after criticism by Rep. Denny Rehberg-R-Montana, Forest Supervisor Chip Weber capitulated, and announced in an Oct. 21 news release that Flathead National Forest was withdrawing its decision not to renew the permit and will “formally seek public comment.”

Gaylor noted that majority does not rule in “matters of personal conscience” and called the plans for a public comment period “politically motivated.” Such comments would be “irrelevant, inappropriate and divisive” because “constitutional issues are not decided by popularity contests.”

FFRF’s letter notes that the Roman Catholic men’s club appears to have paid nothing more than nominal application fees for the use of the 25×25-foot parcel of federal land for decades.

FFRF points out that the Special Use Permit itself records the unconstitutional purpose as: “to provide a site for a religious shrine.” The lease map is titled “Knights of Columbus Shrine” and points to the statue’s location via a tab marked “shrine.”

The “war memorial” claim which shrine defenders have hastily conjured is a “sham,” FFRF charges. There is no reference in the lease to a memorial, nor may the federal government erect a sectarian shrine as a memorial which promotes one religion’s deity and excludes all non-Christians. Excluded are “the many ‘atheists in foxholes’ who have served our country with distinction and valor,” FFRF wrote Tidwell. Courts have rejected such ruses, FFRF pointed out.

The hysterical reaction of the shrine defenders, who insist the shrine can’t be moved in case it falls apart, is evidence that they regard the statue as a sacred relic, FFRF adds. The condition of the statue is the concern of the wealthy Knights of Columbus which has manufactured many such look-alive Jesus statues, Gaylor says, but it is not the concern of the federal government and does not supersede the Constitution.

The Flathead National Forest press release reports a bizarre claim by the Montana State Historical Preservation Office that “the site in question is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.”

Just because a violation is long-lasting does not diminish the violation, Gaylor says. Quite the contrary. To put this in perspective, she noted that she was born in November 1955, the same year the shrine was erected. Certainly 55-year-olds like herself are not “historic”!

FFRF says the wealthy Knights of Columbus can litter their extensive private landscape with Jesus shrines, but they overstep their rights when they appropriate federal property to broadcast their religious message.

For maximum effectiveness, write as an individual and not as someone responding to an Action Alert. Please do not forward this Action Alert to anyone at the US Forest Service. We are pleased to receive “blind” (“BCC”) copies of your messages and correspondence by e-mail at action@ffrf.org.

Please take a moment to urge the Forest Department not to renew the Knights of Columbus lease. We have included both Chief Tidwell and Supervisor Weber’s contact information (to save time send a joint email):

(Even one-sentence responses, especially if they include your full contact information, are effective. Feel free to use or paraphrase the following statement or any of the above message. If you happen to be a veteran please indicate that you feel excluded by the sham claim that this is a war memorial.)

The US Forest Service should not renew the unconstitutional leasing agreement with the Knights of Columbus to keep a Jesus “shrine” atop Big Mountain at Flathead National Forest. It is irresponsible to seek “public comment” instead of adhering to the Constitution.

Contact the State Historic Preservation Office to protest their intervention in a federal constitutional issue on the basis of a phony claim that a look-alike Jesus shrine is “historical”:

Losing Rail Line. A sign of things to come?

I was reading the Ravalli Republic, just browsing through when this article caught my eye.

It pissed me off honestly. We are doing so much to improve the highway through the valley for all the commuters to and from Idaho(My personal theory) that we can’t keep our Rail Link system running?

They said that they would continue to explore their options… such a cop out. They aren’t making money hand over fist from the Bitterroot so they are abandoning all the businesses they service here. Fantastic.

When a group wants to give you a large sum of money to help cure cancer what should you do? TAKE IT… help cure cancer!!! Well, if you’re atheist apparently your money isn’t wanted or needed.

Looks like they lost a donor in the likes of me. I am an atheist. I have the right to help secular research groups such as The ACS is supposed to be. OOps. Your bad.

Does Pro-Life work with being for Small Governement? Ha! A Little Rant.

“These same people who tell us we must defend the lives of the unborn–they are the same people who seem not so interested in defending anyone but themselves after the accident of birth is complete! These same people who profess their love of the unborn’s soul–they don’t care to make much of a contribution to the poor, they don’t care to offer much assistance to the unwanted or the oppressed! How do they justify such a concern for the fetus and such a lack of concern for unwanted and abused children? They condemn others for the accident of conception; they condemn the poor–as if the poor can help being poor. One way the poor could help themselves would be to be in control of the size of their families. I thought that freedom of choice was obviously democratic–was obviously American!”~John Irving, from “The Cider House Rules”

During the past decade, anti-abortion rights groups have expanded their agenda to oppose contraception programs and women’s health services. In just the first half of 2011, 162 new laws were enacted which restrict women’s reproductive health care — the majority of which were attacks on preventive health care services and providers. While the media pays close attention to these issues as they are debated in Congress or in the state legislatures, little attention is paid to the important role city governments can and do play in this political struggle.

What I don’t understand about the pro-life idiots is that if they can’t trust me to make a choice why the hell would they trust me with a child? If you feel you need to regulate reproduction then masturbation needs to be out-lawed, so does birth control such as the pill and condoms. You can’t tell someone, “You live in a free country, HOWEVER, I am going to tell you what you can and cannot do to your own body.

You can’t say, “You live in a free country BUT…” Because THEN IT”S NOT A FREE COUNTRY. You are either free or you are not. If you want a LARGE Government that dictates morals of the majority then you are not living in a free society. You might as well be living in Saddom’s Iraq.

Yes I am in the minority. I am a woman and I’m a Pro-Choice independent atheist. I believe abortions should be legal up until fetus viability. If the fetus cannot live and breathe on it’s own it is merely a parasite incubating inside the woman’s body and it us up to her whether or not she would like to sustain said parasite. I know it sounds cold and uncaring, however, when you take your dog or cat in to be fixed and find out that it was already pregnant you don’t stop the spay or neuter. You have no qualms about it even though the Bible said you cannot ‘fix’ any animal and it is a sin against god. Yet these animals won’t go to heaven either.

If you don’t believe in abortions: Don’t have one. If you don’t believe in abortion you have every right to do so but do not take away the rights to my own medical care. You think of a fetus as a baby, I do not. If I want it gone that is MY choice and not yours. We have HIPPA for a reason. Our medical records are private because they are OURS not yours. My body my business my right. However, once that fetus can survive outside the womb all bets are off unless my life is at stake.

People place black and white in this issue when it’s anything but black and white, why? Simply put, you cannot restrict another human beings choices pertaining to medical treatments they want or need. Otherwise you do not live in a free democratic nation. We have already let the corporations take over politics, do you really want to go against the founding fathers and let the church and other religious bigots take over as well?

Fired by Mass Email? Is that Legal??

Okay so technically only three people that I know of were CC’d in on the email, but it was written in a very polite yet passive aggressive manner. Then when I’d replied hoping to work it out he answered only to again cc another person in to the conversation. It was much less passive and he basically said I’ve fired you and you aren’t worth it… however give me a plan and some good reasons for me to keep employing you.

<*SLAP*>

Wait… he wants me to beg for my job back? This is AFTER he sent the email to at least three people that he canned my ass.

Is this legal? Yes he worded these emails to be VERY polite and censuring to make me feel like I was in the wrong, and it does. I’m one of those people who are EXTREMELY sensitive to guilt trips. I was raging hard on guilt when I realized that he’d cc’d more than the head of the Temp company I was working through.

This feels incredibly unprofessional and I feel like some of my privacy was violated. I really don’t think that’s legal. I understand firing me, then writing separate emails to people who need to know, but sending them MY termination letter? Was this just an attempt to get me to beg for work? Work for less? I didn’t bill him for any hours I didn’t work, in fact I never billed him for all the time I’ve spend backing up his whole system.

Should I give him one more full back up of everything bill him and call it quits? Would I give in and basically beg for my job back? (Though,I think I’d rather work at Target again.)

Should I even reply to the last email?

This man would tell me I sounded ignorant and if I wasn’t typing 90 to 120 words per minute I was too damn slow. That I would need to take speech lessons to sound more intelligent. I always just figured he was a condescending prick like a lot of the elitist rich pricks I’ve met in the valley. (Don’t get me wrong there are some incredibly wealthy sweethearts too.) Pricks I can handle, but condescending pricks looking for a power trip? I do have my shit eating limits. My bank account doesn’t but hey at least I’ve already bought the cat food in bulk. I should be able to buy my own food for a while.

Uhg… Can someone talk to me please???

Young Broken and Questioning in Rural MT

It’s always been hard to live in Montana, if you’re born here that is. All my life I’ve been told if you could move here with money you can live like a king, but if you’re born here you’d better be damn lucky or a heartless bastard to make the money. Well Obviously I’m neither. I’m educated, I have a good head on my shoulders(aside from the emotional difficulties). I’m smart, I’m talented but I can’t figure out how to make it work in this valley. There are no mental health services for people like me and I’m struggling. I cannot afford meds so how can I afford the counseling that is recommended and I KNOW I need? I can’t.

I’m suffering some severe anxiety, panic attacks. I have no health insurance and am finding harder and harder to hide my instabilities from my employers. I can’t focus or make it on time anywhere no matter how important it is, I’m constantly losing track of time and making little mistakes that shouldn’t be made, period. I’m scared of two of my bosses, to the point that I have panic attacks when I think I have to speak directly to them. I get scared thinking about spending more than 18 hours away from home. I know whats wrong with me, Anxiety combined with Adult ADHD. They told me over and over again that I would grow out of it but I was diagnosed a third time in college. There’s no help here. I am too embarrassed to actively look for a counselor by calling around.

I don’t know, maybe this is too damn personal to put on my blog and I should really stick to political and random happenings in the ‘root. I’m scared of so many things and my emotional problems only exacerbate all of them. My student loans are amazingly scary and a huge huge burden. I’m working three jobs and am finally breaking down, I have to quit one or two for my sanity, but can I afford it, probably not. Should I move out of Montana? Follow my soldier, though everyone would have a conniption fit because we aren’t married. He won’t marry me unless I can get my student loans ironed out and not damaging out financial future.(I doubt that’s even possible for me) Also, the east coats is a HUGE change: Can I handle the stress of such a long distance move? Can I make a living finding something that makes me happy but sued by student loan banks or do I keep working myself sick to make ends meet?

I’m not asking for hand outs. I don’t think the world owes me anything. Don’t get me wrong, if there was a way to temporarily ease my load until I could get back on my feet I would take it. There isn’t, not here in the valley. My soul is here but my heart is sad. It’s being bogged down by the daily cost of being a young native Montanan. Not all young people these days are lazy and have an entitlement complex. I want to work, I want to do a good job that I can be proud of, but if I’m working myself to death all my jobs suffer and I feel trapped in s sick cycle that only leaving the valley will cure. Will I be able to be happy leaving these mountains simply because I’m with a man I love?

I have so many questions and all I’m told is just keep my head down and shoulder to the grindstone but I feel like if I keep doing that I’m pushing my troubles toward disaster. I remind myself that breakdowns are only for the rich. I can’t afford to break down but I can’t seem to stop this speeding car….
